Financing a Home Energy Retrofit in Ireland
A home energy retrofit looks at your home as a whole, combining different upgrades to make it warmer, more comfortable and more energy efficient. The work that makes sense for your home will depend on its age, construction and current energy performance.
For some homes, the priority might be improving attic, wall or floor insulation and replacing older windows and doors. A more extensive retrofit could also include a heat pump, heating controls, improved ventilation, solar panels or battery storage.
Because several improvements are often carried out together, the overall cost can vary considerably. Available grants may help reduce that cost, so getting an assessment of your home and understanding which upgrades are recommended can help you work out how much you may need to finance.
How Much Does a Home Energy Retrofit Cost in Ireland?
The cost of retrofitting a home in Ireland can vary significantly. A project involving insulation and a small number of upgrades will have a very different budget from a deep retrofit involving the building fabric, heating system, windows and renewable energy technologies.
Some of the main factors that can affect the cost include:

Are There Grants for Home Energy Retrofits in Ireland?
There are a number of SEAI grants and schemes designed to support homeowners making energy-efficiency improvements.
Depending on the work you're planning and your eligibility, support may be available for measures such as insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and other upgrades. Different routes are available depending on whether you're carrying out individual improvements or undertaking a more comprehensive home energy upgrade.
